NACS has released the NACS State of the Industry Report® of 2021 Data— the convenience and fuel retailing industry’s premier benchmarking tool and the most comprehensive collection of data and trends in the industry.

“Last year, our industry emerged from a disruptive and uncertain 2020 and transformed to meet customers where they were, resulting in an impressive 28.7% increase in total sales year over year,” said Lori Buss Stillman, NACS vice president of research. “As our industry continues to evolve, the NACS State of the Industry Report is an indispensable tool for retailers, offering exclusive industry information not available anywhere else and supporting sustainable and profitable growth.”

For more than 50 years, NACS has released the State of the Industry Report, fueled by data submitted from companies participating in the annual NACS State of the Industry survey. This year, more than 150 member companies submitted their financial, operational and category data.

In 2020, convenience retailers played essential roles in their communities during the COVID-19 pandemic, and while the world moved on to 2021, convenience retailers quickly realized that the pandemic was and is still impacting operations, along with new challenges.

“The financial and operational performance results in the industry were still remarkable following an equally noteworthy performance in 2020. These results are a testament to the agility of convenience operators that were able to adapt and adjust to the challenges 2021 placed before them,” the report states.

In 2021, the industry saw $705.7 billion in total sales and $277.9 billion in inside sales, fueled by an 18.2% increase in foodservice sales. Don’t miss out on this essential tool for best-in-class retailers who are disciplined in leveraging the performance tracking and benchmarking practices NACS enables.

NACS members can purchase the report for $499, and once bought, purchasers will receive a digital license for the report. Order access at www.convenience.org/SOIreport.
