A Baby Gator Walks Into a Gas Station…

January 2019   minute read

Gas station attendants see their fair share of interesting patrons, and now workers at a Miami gas station can say they’ve seen them all. One morning around 1 a.m., a baby alligator decided to crawl into the convenience store (looking for a late-night munch, we presume). “You have a what in where?” the dispatcher said to the caller who reported the unusual guest. Two police officers, both skilled wildlife handlers, arrived shortly and removed the young reptile, releasing it safely into its natural habitat—outside the convenience store.

Smile, You’re on YouTube

Troublemakers at one Ohio gas station aren’t just caught on camera, they also make their debut on the station’s social media accounts. “Gas Station Encounters” is a YouTube channel featuring shoplifters at the convenience store, who are caught not only in the act, but also receive mocking commentary from “Brandon,” who dubs the videos of thieves with saucy narration, amusing music and silly sound effects. Brandon’s family owns the store, and he hopes the videos will help stop the thefts while entertaining people in the process. The YouTube channel has thousands of followers, with the videos reaching millions of views.

Headquartered in History

A 1930s-era gas station in Gloucester, Virginia, has been gifted a new life thanks to the Fairfield Foundation, a regional archaeological organization. The Edge Hill Texaco Service Station is now the Foundation’s headquarters after undergoing an eight-year, $1.3 million-dollar restoration. The organization’s new home pays homage to the early 20th century business with vintage gas pumps, original exterior light poles, and the restrooms feature the station’s original daisy glass windows. The Foundation added a few 21st century touches, including roof-mounted solar panels, while the original, lighted Texaco sign hangs in the front office, greeting visitors like it has for many decades.
