The Long Haul

The Long Haul

March 2020   minute read

An Illinois man decided to haul his snowmobile from Illinois to Michigan on the roof of his car (instead of a trailer) to save some cash. Photos of Tommy Mecher filling up his 2005 Chevy Malibu at gas stations along his journey have garnered some funny comments on social media. Mecher alleges that he only spent an extra $10 or so in gas to haul the machine. He made sure the snowmobile was secured with multiple straps, and Mecher even had his buddy hop on the snowmobile to try and rock it. When questioned about the legality of transporting the machine in this manner, Mecher said a lot of police officers have seen him but haven’t said anything. In fact, one police officer at a gas station told Mecher that he didn’t see anything illegal about it. Once Mecher arrived at his destination, it only took him nine minutes to unload.

On the Road Again

One woman took a road trip with her boyfriend that she will never forget. The couple was traveling from New Mexico to Mexico in a Honda Element, and the woman had crawled in the back to nap while her boyfriend drove. When he stopped at a gas station in New Mexico to fill up the small SUV, the woman decided to take a bio break. When she came out of the c-store, she realized her boyfriend had driven off. She didn’t have her phone to call him but wasn’t too worried, thinking he would notice and come back quickly. After two hours and multiple unanswered calls from the store’s phone, he finally showed up. He thought she had been sleeping in the back the entire time. He eventually passed by some “cool scenery” and went to wake her, realized she was gone and sped back to the gas station. Hopefully, he’ll check the back next time he stops to fuel up.

Locked In

Four suspects attempted to burgle a gas station in Georgia and managed to accidentally lock two of the alleged thieves inside the closed store. Shortly after the two suspects broke into the convenience store, a police officer drove by and apparently spooked their accomplices waiting in a car outside. The two sped off, leaving their friends to fend for themselves. The suspects locked inside the store had to smash the windows to escape, but the police were already notified of the break-in. The two men only made it a couple blocks before they were picked up by officers. Damage to the store was minimal. The gas station manager found humor in the situation. “I don’t think they knew what they were doing,” he said.
