What role in the community do you think convenience stores should play?

At Pilot Flying J, we strive every day to be the best place to work and the best place to shop. As a result, it is imperative that we are good neighbors, taxpayers and philanthropists in the communities we operate.

What does NACS political engagement mean to you, and what benefits have you experienced from being politically engaged?

NACS has been a great resource of information on important issues affecting every convenience store in the nation. It is hard for one person to be the expert on all legislative matters. NACS provides Pilot Flying J with up-to-date information and valuable resources in order to stay legally compliant and politically informed. In addition, participating in NACS Day on the Hill was an eye opener. The information they provided, along with the meetings they set up with members of Congress and their staff, was extremely helpful in advancing our concerns and feeling heard on Capitol Hill.

What federal legislative or regulatory issues keep you up at night?

Privacy and data security breaches are extremely important to Pilot Flying J. We process more than 1.5 million credit card transactions a day, and we care about the safety and protection of our guests. Again, by participating in NACS Day on the Hill, I was able to voice my concerns to both our Senate and House representatives. It was a great way to ensure that the member of Congress understands the importance of their actions and the potential impact their actions have on businesses. It was also valuable in allowing us to provide them with key statistics and questions to ask when attending a hearing or meeting on the issues.

What c-store product could you not live without?

Coffee, because we have the best on the interstate!
