An abandoned gas station in Fort Smith, Oklahoma, is now a work of art. Justkids, a creative think tank that curates public art projects in surprising locations, chose the gas station for its next project and commissioned artist Camille Walala to turn the 1950s-era building into art. Walala, with help from community members, painted zebra-like lines on the building and forecourt, along with contrasting polka dots and a bright blue floor. Inspiration for the project ranged from the Southern Ndebele Tribe Women of South Africa to Italy’s Memphis Movement, said Walala. The gas station, now known as Walala Pump & Go, sits at the intersection of three roads and will be a permanent fixture in the town for years to come.

A Magical Moment

The holidays often inspire random acts of kindness. Before heading into a Wawa in Fort Myers, Florida, Mary Katherine Backstrom was reading a Facebook post about paying it forward during the holidays, which prompted her to pay for a fellow customer’s soda while she was in the c-store. After sharing a “precious” moment with the woman, Backstrom walked outside to see a man cleaning the windshield of her car. She assumed the stranger wiping her windshield also was paying it forward, so she thanked him, told him how much she loves this time of year and humanity and gave him a hug. Turns out, it wasn’t her car. He was wiping his own windshield, and her similar model car was parked behind him. Needless to say, she was mortified but recounted her story through a hilarious Facebook video, which has amassed more than 22 million views and landed her a spot on The Ellen DeGeneres Show.

It’s Raining Men

One suspected convenience store burglar left the scene of the crime in an ambulance. Police in Buffalo, New York, responded to an alarm/burglary in progress call at 3:46 a.m. at a local c-store, finding a man lying on the floor near the entrance. The cops said he entered the store through the roof but fell through the ceiling, causing extensive damage to the store and its merchandise. EMS treated the suspect at the scene, and he was taken to an area hospital for further evaluation. While in the emergency room, 10 packs of Newport cigarettes fell out of the man’s pants pockets, according to police.
